CARING FOR YOUR PERSIAN CARPET Article by Eric Scott |
Originating from nomadic shepherds, hand-made woolen rugs were made to endure hard use -- day after day, camp after camp. With some simple care, hand knotted rugs can literally last for centuries. Vacuuming with the brush roller on its highest setting (to keep the roller from pulling on the pile) will help keep dust and dirt from being worked deep in to the pile. Shaking or beating your rugs periodically is also recommended. For a rug that is very dirty or stained, professional cleaning is recommended. Coarse fibered Kilims can stand being hosed off on a flat surface but must be thoroughly dry before placing on a floor. Rotating your carpets is also suggested so that the natural fade of the colors will be even. A torn edge or damaged weft can easily be repaired, which can add years to the life of a carpet. |
