Salt deposits more ancient than the Himalayan Mountains. A substance older than the majestic peaks of the East. Can you imagine?

For as long as memory has been, salt has been an integral part of  both human and animal existence. In the wild, animals instinctively seek out salt deposits for the taste and the abundance of trace minerals. In turn, cultures across the world have traded salt as a commodity for as long as history has been recorded.

 It has been only in the past 50 years that salt has been maligned as a hardener of arteries and a culprit of high blood pressure. This is due to the simple fact that our typical everyday supermarket salt and main ingredients in most supermarket and restaurant foods contains “commercial” salt. This commercial salt is actually a by-product of the aluminum industry, is highly processed and unbelievably contains refined sugar. Indeed this “salt” does harden the arteries and causes high blood pressure and is the equivalent to the vitamin and mineral leaching white sugar.

 Many of us have switched to Celtic salt or sea salt not realizing that the salt is being harvested from oceans that have been poisoned to the brink of environmental disaster. Some alternative salts available from desert environments are certainly an upgrade from the sea salts.
